Giant new skyscraper to become the tallest building in Austin: A 58-story skyline changer
The Austin skyline is making way for a towering addition. At 58 stories and 685 feet tall, a new luxury condominium will become the tallest building in Austin — and the tallest residential structure west of the Mississippi River.
The Independent, a 950,000-square-foot tower, will be situated at the corner of Third Street and West Avenue at the former home of the Austin Energy Control Center. The mixed-use development will house 370 condos and 13,500 square feet of retail space. Condos will be priced from $300,000 to $3 million.
The joint venture between Constructive Ventures and Aspen Heights aims to focus on accommodating Austinites of all ages, not just the younger demographic. "Residents at every age and stage of life can comfortably call this tower home — a real first for Austin — and that's because of all the building's distinct attributes," said principal of Constructive Ventures Perry Lorenz.
Amenities at The Independent include a dog park, children's area, pool and spa, fitness center, yoga and barre studio, theater, conference rooms, guest suites, lounges and more.
"We intend to build a tower that's truly reflective — in its name, architecture, finishes, views, location and amenities — of Austin," said Greg Henry, founder and CEO of Aspen Heights. "A building of this prominence should be mindful of not only a diverse set of future residents, but the entire community as well."
There is no word yet on a groundbreaking or completion date for The Independent.
