A restaurant double: Max's Wine Dive plots a 2nd Houston location, creating a new foodie corner
Max's Wine Dive is planning to open a second Houston location. A source tells CultureMap that the gourmet comfort food restaurant-cum-wine bar is moving forward on a 2,818-square-foot spot at 214 Fairview St., next door to Mexican bistro Cuchara.
Though Jonathan Horowitz, a representative for Max's owner Lasco Enterprises, tells us that there has been "no lease signed in Houston," we're interested to see how the concept will fit into that corner — one that's already bustling with local businesses (think Reeves Antiques and Fletcher Bike Studio) and bar/restaurants (like Gratifi and Boheme Cafe and Wine Bar) — once it becomes official.
Despite parking shortages and seat scarcity, the restaurant's small spot on Washington Square strip center seems to always be packed to the rafters with diners enjoying fried chicken and champagne, so it seems the brand could do with more real estate.
Max's Wine Dive, which first opened on Washington Avenue in December 2006, has since expanded to Austin, San Antonio and Dallas and, according to Horowitz, is "considering a number of different spaces for expansion of the . . . concept in Houston, Austin, Dallas, and a number of states outside of Texas."
