Houston's own European village? New luxury townhouse development includes its own showy canal
Somerset Green — a residential community designed to emulate a European village with three- to four-story luxury townhomes in Regency and Normandy architectural style which come complete with a canal, large pond, central gardens and parks — is rising on 46 acres inside Loop 610.
A Hines development, the walled and 24-hour guarded neighborhood is scheduled to be completed this summer. Sales offices at the site will open sometime in March. Somerset Green is located at 6900 Old Katy Road near Star Motor Cars, the Houston SPCA and The Houston Design Center.
The project includes about 500 homes ranging from 2,600 to 4,000 square feet with prices running from $500,000 to $800,000. The most expensive properties will front the canal. Rather than private yards, residents will have access to a swimming pool, formal gardens, entertainment venue, gardens, dog parks and views of Somerset Pond.

Along with Hines, Coventry Homes, Pelican Builders and Toll Brothers are committed to building the homes at Somerset Green.
"Without ever having to leave the city, Somerset Green is conveniently minutes away from The Heights, downtown, The Galleria and Memorial Park," the community's promotional material reads.
Hines announced the project in 2013 and started the initial phase of infrastructure in early 2014. The project is Hines’ first Houston single-family community in years, with most of the company’s residential developments in Dallas.
The company is mainly known for its skyscrapers gleaming across the globe.
