KIPP founders honored with Holocaust Museum's Guardian of the Human Spirit Award
Lifelong commitments to preparing lower-income students for college and dedication to teaching tolerence and respect in schools earned Knowledge Is Power Program (KIPP) founders Mike Feinberg and Dave Levin the Holocaust Museum Houston's Guardian of the Human Spirit award.
More than 800 museum supporters gathered at the Hilton Americas-Houston for the awards luncheon that raised $370,000, funds that will help the museum remain open and free of charge year-round.
Feinberg and Levin addressed the audience on the necessity of continuing to challenge social injustice throughout the world. They received the award from Jim "Mattress Mac" McIngvale, a long-time KIPP supporter. The program included a surprise video appearance by Microsoft founder Bill Gates and a call to action by Holocaust survivor Bill Morgan.
The luncheon was chaired by Tracy and Gary Stein and Sallie and George Alcorn.
Joining the fundraiser were Joan and Stanford Alexander, Laurie and Dr. Milton Boniuk, Jack Blanton Sr., Jeff Hines, Gerald Hines, Polly and Murry Bowden, Molly and Jim Crownover, Dee Dee Dochen, Kelli and Martin Fein, Doe and Henry Florsheim and museum president Tali Blumrosen and husband Eric Blumrosen.
