Apple Fans Robbed In Line
No app for that: Apple fans robbed at gunpoint while camping out for new iPhone
A common scene in 21st-century life turned violent early Friday morning when armed bandits robbed Apple fans waiting for the new iPhone.
Jodi Silva with the Houston Police Department tells CultureMap that a small group spent much of Thursday evening into Friday morning camped out at an AT&T store at Westheimer and Chimney Rock.
Several Apple devotees say they noticed a dark-color Honda driving by the shop a number of times before it finally pulled into the parking lot just before 5 a.m. A pair of men quickly sprang from the vehicle — one with a gun — while third remained in the driver's seat.
The suspects snagged phones, wallets and cash from two victims before fleeing the scene. No injuries were reported.
The customers tell KHOU's Tim Wetzell that they chose the Westheimer AT&T believing that the lines for the new iPhone 5C and 5S would be less daunting. Witnesses say about 10 people were camped out when the robbers arrived.
AT&T officials offered the victims store credit for the value of their stolen iPhones.
