Monopoly board game gets an offshore oil twist as Halliburton replaces Boardwalk
It’s game on for OE (Offshore Engineer) Magazine, celebrating its 40-year anniversary, and American toy and game company, Hasbro.
The two have teamed up to launch the OE 40th Anniversary Collector’s Edition Monopoly Game, introduced this week at OTC (Offshore Technology Conference), the annual conclave at NRG Park focused on the development of offshore energy resources.
This version is decked out with elements of the oil and gas industry, including tokens revamped to include a helicopter, drill bits, safety helmet, scuba diver and a remotely operated vehicle.
Not your childhood Monopoly, this version is decked out with elements of the oil and gas industry, including special graphics and tokens revamped to include a helicopter, drill bits, drillship, safety helmet, scuba diver and a remotely operated vehicle.
Currency is measured in barrels of oil instead of dollars, Chance cards have been renamed Exploration cards and Chest cards have been relabeled as Production cards. Traditional properties from Boardwalk to Park Place now have new monikers such as National Oilwell Varco, OneSubsea, Halliburton and FMC Technologies.
“We wanted to do something truly unique to celebrate and promote the industry,” Brion Palmer, President of AtComedia, publisher of OE, says in a statement. “A custom Monopoly game for the industry offered us the opportunity to accomplish these goals in a fun, interactive, educational and family-oriented manner.”
