At last!
Hallelujah! Long-awaited Highland Village Apple Store opens on Friday
Though a secretive black shroud still covers the glass panes, a storefront will soon be revealed: On Friday, the long awaited Apple will open in Highland Village at 4012 Westheimer.
On Monday morning, crews were completing final touches, laying slabs of stone along the front plaza behind chain link rental fence. Black adhesive covered the glass front and back, only square mirrored joints and a sliver of window peeking out of the top.
The first 1,000 customers will receive a commemorative T-shirt and, of course, have first dibs on the new iPad.
Fanatics and aficionados will likely line up long before the 8 a.m. grand opening — the first 1,000 customers will receive a commemorative T-shirt and, of course, have first dibs on the new iPad, which goes on sale Friday.
Employees at neighboring Sprinkles Cupcakes are already feeling the effects of the store. Beyond hiring additional bakers in anticipation of opening day, Felicia Sanchez told CultureMap that her premium space at the front of the employee parking lot has been compromised.
"There must be at least 100 employees over there (at the Apple store) for training," says Sanchez.
An Apple spokesperson told CultureMap that the official number is 160, the largest sales area in Texas. It will be the first freestanding Apple store in the Houston area; other locations are in area shopping malls.
Will you be lining up for a new iPad and a first look at the store?
