Praise for Perks
Three Texas companies rank high on list of workplaces with best employee benefits

If you’re hunting for a job that offers awesome benefits and perks, then you might want to check out grocery giant Whole Foods Market.
Glassdoor, which publishes employees’ reviews of employers, has named Whole Foods one of the top 20 employers providing benefits “that go beyond the basics and enter legendary status.” Glassdoor singled out the Austin-based supermarket chain with seven Houston locations for the 20 percent store discount for all full-time and part-time employees.
In praising Whole Foods, Glassdoor cited this review from a former worker: “They created an environment where you are motivated to work hard and that’s enjoyable. They give great benefits to their employees. The upper management seems to care a lot of their employees.”
Glassdoor put two other Texas-based employers on its 2017 list of the top 20 for benefits and perks: Dallas-based Southwest Airlines and San Antonio-based USAA. Glassdoor highlighted access to the Clear Skies employee assistance program for all workers at Southwest and their dependents. USAA was praised for its 401(k) program, which gives an 8 percent match to employee participants, compared with the U.S. average of 6 percent.
Among other companies on the list with Houston locations are Ikea at No. 1, Starbucks at No. 7, and Gap at No. 13.
