Just in time for the holidays, students from UH's College of Architecture have partnered with Rice Village's PH Design Shop [https: /houston.culturemap.com/mapdetail/ph-design-shop] (2414 Rice Blvd.) to present a new line of handcrafted items — part of an innovative class geared to prepare young designers for the realities of creating commercially-viable products. "So often, students leave design school without knowing the true real-world value of their work," says professor Cord Bowen, who launched the "Architecture and the Object" course in 2011. This semester, groups of two or three students used $200 to conceive, prototype and create items ranging from wallets to planters made from recycled coffee grounds. Priced between $12 and $60, the final products will be unveiled Tuesday at PH Design during a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. The items will remain on sale through the holidays, although availability is limited. _______ Lona Canvas art supply case by David Saucedo, Jaqueline Ramirez and Christine Tran
