A very merry home tour
Heights homeowners decorate in style for holiday open house
No holiday party invitations for this weekend? Mope not. The Houston Heights Association is rolling out the welcome mat Friday night and Saturday afternoon into the evening with the annual Heights Holiday Home Tour with all of its yummy trimmings.
Fives houses, reflecting the theme, "In the New Old Fashioned Way," will be decorated to the hilt and filled with the sounds of Christmas music from carolers and musicians.
The party action begins at tour headquarters — Heights City Hall and Fire Station at 12th and Yale streets — where the Holiday Craft Market will present answers to your shopping woes, live music will keep you energized and offerings from food trucks will keep your tummy full. Tickets are $20 in advance and can be purchased here or $25 on the days of the tour, available at city hall and a number of area shops. Proceeds benefit the Houston Heights Association.
The tour homes represent the broad variety of dwellings in the neighborhood — a 1920s bungalow blending its original character with contemporary style, an expansive 1994 Italianate two-story home completely renovated, a contemporary loft-style home that belies the area's genteel heritage, a 1919 bungalow remodeled for 21st century living and a quaint cottage given new life by its current owners.
