Houstonians rallied for Extreme Makeover'srebuild of The Beach family's home in Kemah and now, Ty Pennington and the team are heading to Houston. The family's identity hasn't been revealed yet, but we do know the volunteer pep rally is July 19, and the "Door Knock" when Pennington and producers show up on the doorstep of the selected family's house for the ABC cameras is July 25.
Houston's First Baptist Church will host the pep rally and will be joined by the Extreme Makeover Team, the local Houston builders HHN Homes and Studio RED Architects. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the rally begins at 7 p.m.
The goal of the team is to construct a sustainable home for the family. HHN Homes is a certified Energy Star & Green Building Initiative company, so it brings the experience to back up the promise.
Houston has a horrible reputation in the green community — we're an oil city, we were once America's fattest city, and we are notoriously car dependent. Those are three very big strikes against us. Along with changing the life of a family, hopefully the show will also show where the Bayou City's committed to an environmental transformation .
The rebuild needs volunteers and donations. If you'd like to help, visit HHN's website for more details and sign-up opportunities.
