Ritzy home design store opens in River Oaks: CEO calls Houston less predictable than other cities
What originally attracted design-forward lifestyle furniture brand JANUS et Cie to Houston were the beautiful homes and the eclectic and artful way people elected to decorate them.
"We chose Houston because we found that the people there were very individual and stylish, less predictable than in other cities," Janice Feldman, president and CEO of JANUS et Cie, tells CultureMap.
After nearly a decade at the Decorative Center, the showroom is now in the heart of one of Houston's ritziest areas with a new address at 3935 San Felipe, on the River Oaks block home to Ouisie's Table, Cotton Club and Relish.
"We chose Houston because we found that the people there were very individual and stylish, less predictable than in other cities."
There, the new 7,000-square-foot space and a sunny San Felipe-facing garden showcases JANUS et Cie's high-end indoor and outdoor lines. Walls of chairs and topiary arches surround a high-ceilinged interior annex filled with oversized umbrellas and luxury lounge furniture.
"We have so much more space here," says showroom manager Marvin Comeaux, who pointed to the Fibonacci collection and a long, sleek Marina Picnic Table as a few items that wouldn't have fit on the old showroom.
Although the showroom has historically sold primarily to the trade, Comeaux has also noticed a marked increase in customers dropping by without their designers since the store opened earlier this month.
The showroom is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
