    PARISIAN PIVOT

Luxury brand Balmain bids adieu to River Oaks, relocates to the Galleria

    Gabi De la Rosa
    May 7, 2025 | 4:00 pm

After a très chic debut in River Oaks District less than two years ago, legendary French fashion house Balmain is on the move. Promising a larger space and posh interiors, Balmain is relocating its Houston flagship boutique to the Galleria in summer 2025, joining many of the most sought-after luxury brands, including Dolce & Gabbana, Balenciaga, Chanel, Bottega Veneta, Rolex, and more.

The new boutique, exclusive to Houston and only one of two in Texas, promises a more expansive space, about 2,100 square feet, dedicated to men's and women's ready-to-wear collections. Inspired by a refined but cozy Parisian apartment, the new outpost will feature a serene color palette with cream-toned curtains, soft carpet, and iconic "Pumpkin" armchairs by Pierre Paulin, known for their coquille-like shape. These soft features will contrast with the sharp lines of triangular columns, concrete floors, and polished stainless steel, a subtle nod to the brand's New York boutique.

"For decades, the Galleria has remained Houston's premier choice for high-end fashion," said Velda Turan, senior vice president of luxury leasing for property owner Simon. "Given their bold, distinctive designs and meticulous craftsmanship, the logical home for Balmain is within the exclusive luxury collection at the Galleria. We are pleased to welcome Balmain to the Galleria and support their continued success."

From River Oaks to The Galleria, Balmain elevates its Houston presence with a larger, couture-inspired space.

In recent years, major luxury fashion houses at the Galleria, such as Louis Vuitton, Fendi, and Saint Laurent, have expanded and reimagined their spaces. Many of these boutiques, Gucci being the most recent example, have doubled in size and introduced new design prototypes.

"Our decision to relocate our flagship Houston boutique to the Galleria naturally follows the steps of a new chapter for Balmain, enhancing the in-store experience while staying true to the brand's unique attitude," said Emily George, president, the Americas at Balmain. "Each of our locations reflects this, offering a bespoke, couture-inspired environment that connects with our clients on a deeper level. We've noticed a strong demand locally for an expanded and more immersive Balmain offering. The Galleria, with its dynamic mix of the world's most innovative and prestigious brands, is the perfect location for us. As Houston's premier luxury shopping destination, it reflects the full universe of Balmain and reinforces our commitment to providing an exceptional retail experience."

The Balmain relocation comes at an ideal moment as the Galleria is completing a multimillion-dollar transformation designed to elevate its ambiance and continue to be a draw for the more than 30 million shoppers and diners that visit the center each year.

What to know about the return of Houston's Nutcracker Market for 2025

Shoppers browse festive booths at the Houston Ballet Nutcracker Market, one of the city’s most beloved holiday traditions.

It’s that time of year again when Houston's most dedicated shoppers trade in their pumpkin spice for peppermint lattes and make their annual pilgrimage to NRG Center, in matching sweatshirts, of course, for the Houston Ballet Nutcracker Market.

Marking the unofficial start of the holiday season, this year’s shopping festivities also celebrate the Houston Ballet Academy’s 70th anniversary. Since 1981, the Nutcracker Market has raised over $97.6 million for the Houston Ballet, with 11 percent of merchandise sales and all ticket proceeds supporting ballet programming and training. In 2024, over 99,000 shoppers helped raise $6.3 million for the Houston Ballet, which trains more than 1,000 students annually and awards over $1 million in scholarships.

    What to Expect

More than 280 merchants will take over NRG Center for five days, offering everything from holiday décor and jewelry to clothing, accessories, and enough gourmet treats and delicious samples to keep tote bags full and shoppers happy.

    New Vendors

Shoppers will flock to favorites like Royal Standard, Donne Di Domani, Texas Tamale Company, Paul Michael Company, and Round Top Collection. But 40 new vendors are joining the fun this year. A few newcomers worth checking out between mimosas include:

    • Mini Mahjer: Beginner-friendly mahjong sets and travel kits.
    • Hat Chick: A curated collection of hats and authentic adornments.
    • True Honey Teas: Gourmet blends sweetened with honey granules.
    • Let Me Snack: Popped waterlily seed snacks in assorted flavors.
    • Mended: Hand block-printed tea towels and table linens.
    • Vintage Boho Bags: Customized and upcycled boho-style bags.
    • Chocolate Moonshine Company: Gourmet fudge and artisan truffles that make gift-giving easy.
    • Seasoned Straws: Coated, sustainable, flavored straws.
    • Saturday Silks: 100% silk collegiate scarves and accessories.

    Tips for Tackling the Market

Comfort is key. The Nutcracker Market fills up the NRG Center, so wear shoes made for walking. High heels, sparkles, and sequins may look festive, but comfy clothes are the way to go, especially when shopping for hours and juggling bags all day.

Crowds are highest in the morning, so plan for afternoon or evening shopping if you want a little more elbow room. Strollers, wagons, and rolling bags aren’t allowed, but wheelchairs, walkers, and service animals are welcome. For those who overdo it on the shopping (and who doesn't, this time of year), take advantage of package check or the optional curbside pickup for a seamless, stress-free exit.

    Tickets

General admission is $20 for a one-day pass, available at Ticketmaster.com or H-E-B Business Centers. Early Bird Admission is $60 for those who want a 90 minute head start on Thursday and Friday.
