Hip Austin athleisure brand kicks up new outpost in Heights Mercantile
Austin-based athleisure and athleticwear brand Outdoor Voices is known for being hip, casual, and urbane. Little wonder, then, that the buzzy brand has tapped The Heights as its first Houston location with an outpost at Heights Mercantile. The store officially opens on Friday, December 13.
The retailer is effortlessly cool, led by young CEO, Ty Haney, herself a bit of a rock star in the sports apparel world. The outfit pairings are called “kits,” hover around the $85 mark for a set, and make for ideal activewear for cool kids and fit folk. Outdoor Voices boasts locations in Austin; Dallas; New York City; Chicago; Boston; Nashville; Washington, D.C.; Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
The Houston store is inspired by outer space and “marries the extraterrestrial with the terrestrial,” according to press materials. Inside, shoppers will find aluminum-clad panels (a nod to the Rockets) surrounding the technical apparel for recreation, stadium seating made of synthetic turf and living grasses (a tip of the hat to the Astrodome) for communal hang-outs, and a discovery zone to get to know the products.
“The shop is entirely unique to Houston — all of our shops are directly related to the communities we're opening in — and takes inspiration from NASA and the Astrodome,” an Outdoor Voices spokesperson tells CultureMap.
The peppy vibe doesn’t stop with the decor. “We’re inspired by the way Houstonians are always moving — from jogging in Memorial Park to bird watching at Buffalo Bend Nature Park, we call this ‘Doing Things,’” per a press statement welcoming Houstonians to the store. “We can’t wait to create endorphins with you at our weekly events hosted in-shop and around our new town.”
