Retail Therapy
The party & shop season heats up with a new artsy Pop Up Shop
‘Tis the season to shop. And party. Simultaneously. I know you’ve got the skills to do both, so plan accordingly.
Peel Gallery, always a treat in itself, is opening its doors to local artists for a new Pop Up Shop Wednesday from 7-10 p.m. Billed as a gift-buying opportunity for creative types, the Pop Up Shop features T-shirts, art, jewelry and mid-century furnishings.
Re/mod sells vintage mid-century modern furniture such as seating and desks and accessories, retooling them and giving them a second life. The company partners with artists who share the rediscover, reuse, and introduce philosophy. Plodes Studio blends art, product and architectural design, resulting in intelligent and thought-provoking items like The Barnacles, adaptable storage vessels using minimal, shell-like housings to store items.
Alex Rosa will also have his sketching tools at the ready during the Pop Up Shop for impromptu portraiture sessions and artist Josh Pazda will have a selection of small scaled paper collages. Pop Up Shop creator Celeste Tammariello will have her array of Stella Rose abstract minimalistic organic T-shirts, pillows, journals and prints for sale. Shoppers can enjoy a cupcake truck, free beer and wine and music.
Martinis and Mondays Never Get Me Down
There’s no such thing as the Monday blahs at Melodrama Boutique. Every week from 4-8 p.m. owner Jackie Adams teams up with a designer or local company for Martini Monday, co-op shopping events with 15-percent discounts, promotions and of course, martinis. This Monday’s event features Le Rich Couture’s Spring/Summer 2011 Love & Lace collection.
Adams has a lot to celebrate this season too. Saturday, Dec. 18 marks Melodrama’s eight-year-anniversary and to celebrate she is throwing the Eight Wonders of Melodrama party (did I mention how good of a hostess she is?) an all-day party featuring deals, lots of fashion and other party favorites in a winter wonderland.
Scratch and Score at 310 Rosemont
The big bar at 310 Rosemont is all decked out for the Scratch and Shop Holiday party Dec. 15 from 6-9 p.m. in River Oaks Shopping Center.
A scratch off promotion gives shoppers 40 to 70 percent off purchases during the evening and guess what? It’s an open bar too.
Imagine More Online
One of my favorite places for upscale resale and fresh gift ideas is More Than You Can Imagine. The store is launching a new e-commerce site to complement its Westheimer storefront and while designer frocks come and go too quickly to go on the site, shoppers can buy brand new baby gifts, home accessories, gifts for men and jewelry online.
