As she entered from the back of the Victoria's Secret store in the Galleria, Candice Swanepoel seemed almost lost in the crowd as huge bodyguards surrounded her — but not for long. At the store to promote the launch of a new line of sports bras from the VS Sport Collection, the 25-year-old supermodel was soon the center of attention as she showed off her amazing figure in a sky blue bra trimmed in black — and black leggings.
"Because Victoria's Secret knows what a woman needs in a regular bra, they have a head start on other brands, and they've taken that and put it into their sports bras," Swanepoel said. The model also extolled the virtues of the bra's comfortable padded straps and breathable texture, as well as the variety of colors and styles. "I'm able to switch them out everyday," she said.
"Because it was molded onto my breasts, it fits like a glove, even though it's made of stones," Swanepoel said about the "Fantasy Bra" made especially for her.
Swanepoel is not only the face of the new sports bra line, but has has been selected to wear the 2013 "Fantasy Bra" at this year's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, airing Dec. 10. The bra, which cost $10 million to create, comes with a matching belt and is made of more than 4,200 precious gems. The bejeweled bra features rubies, diamonds and yellow sapphires, all hand-set in 18-carat gold, with a 52-carat ruby at the center.
Swanepoel acknowledged that the fantasy bra "is a little heavy."
"It doesn't feel like a regular bra, that's for sure," she said, speaking in a lilting South African accent. Swanepoel was born and raised in a small town called Mooi River in Natal Province, South Africa, and was discovered by a model scout at a Durban flea market when she was only 15.
"It's a unique feeling, I have to say, and because it was molded onto my breasts, it fits like a glove, even though it's made of stones," she added.
When asked if she would rather wear a sports bra than the fantasy bra, Swanepoel quickly said, "Not on that night," but that she'll "be wearing lots of sports bras" as she exercises to stay in great shape for the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
In a just released Instagram photo, she is seen stretching out in the yoga pose, wearing skintight workout gear for a Victoria's Secret video. But she says her favorite exercise is boxing.
The whirlwind trip to Houston was Swanepoel's first, but she didn't have much time to see anything but the inside of area malls, with appearances at Baybrook Mall and The Woodlands Mall also scheduled for Wednesday.
