During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Kendra Scott does more than just pile on the pink. Since the cause is so dear to the jewelry designer's heart, she makes sure that each year during October her company gives back in a big way.
This year that means donating a total of $100,000 to national breast cancer organizations. Half of that sum is going to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, with the other $50,000 helping out Inheritance of Hope.
"Breast cancer is a cause dear to my heart, having known so many strong, inspiring women who have fought this difficult disease," Scott says. "They are the ones that inspire me to give back each October, in the hope that together we can one day find a cure."
But it's not just corporations that have a chance to give back. The Buy One, Gift One program gives a piece of rose quartz jewelry — the stone of healing — to a woman battling breast cancer, along with a handwritten note of encouragement, for each piece purchased from the Kendra Scott Giveback Suite. And through October 31, 20 percent of sales from Giveback Suite jewelry is being donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
On October 13, Scott is also honoring her friend Holley Rothell Kitchen and her mission to raise awareness and support for metastatic breast cancer, from which she passed away in January 2016. Through the donation to Inheritance of Hope, an all-expenses-paid legacy retreat has been created, where families can create lifelong memories and receive tools to navigate the challenges of terminal illness.
