Happy Anniversary
Monique Lhuillier celebrates 20th anniversary with romantic red carpet gowns
Based in Los Angeles, Monique Lhuillier specializes in Hollywood fantasy, so it's no surprise that she is a red carpet favorite and popular on Houston's party circuit with her spectacular evening gowns. For spring 2017, the designer presented a collection at New York Fashion Week inspired by romance and grandeur, but with a hint of a dark fairy tale attitude and a little Game of Thrones thrown in.
Celebrating the 20th anniversary of her namesake brand, Lhuillier featured a number of signature silhouettes, including an embellished blush jumpsuit with black ribbon belt, a nude-colored paillette-covered mini-dress, and a pale purple cocktail dress with bejeweled collar and arms, worn with a lush lavender mink bolero, a structured lace blazer and palazzo pant and, of course, gowns galore.
Lhuiller's gowns range from a white-and-silver spangled Art Deco-influenced number to pastel gowns trimmed in maribou feathers at the hem and bodice or floral embroidery at the neckline. A pale blue confection looks ready made for a Disney princess (perhaps Ella from Frozen) while a cold-shouldered pink gown with V-neck jeweled embroidery, accessorized with a dark choker, has a Game of Thrones attitude.
Thin-strapped sandals with metallic heels and jeweled- and lace-ribboned ankles and handbags with piped guipure lace and laser-cut leather appliqués on soft suede— all from Lhuillier's handbag and shoe collection — complete the romantic look.
