    Fashion On The Fly

Houston Texans' best dressed player creates a sporty clothing line of his own

Houston Texans cornerback Kareem Jackson is all about working it on the football field, but he’s definitely got moves off the field too. Deemed the “Best Dressed” player by his Texans teammates, Jackson has taken the title and run with it, launching Fly Guy, a small collection of sporty T-shirts and caps.

"Everybody has their own sense of fashion. You can express yourself through fashion."

Fly Guy gives Jackson the opportunity to combine many things he loves including fashion, football and fans. He worked with New Era and Magestic Threads during the off-season on the shirts and caps, and is releasing one style of shirt and hat each month during football season.

Jackson’s focus is on football, but the foray into apparel design gives him something to consider somewhere down the road. He’s low-key about Fly Guy, but clearly believes in the personal power of fashion.

“I’ve always been into fashion and believe in dressing how you feel,” Jackson said. “Everybody has their own sense of fashion. You can express yourself through fashion.”

In Jackson’s case, it’s the shoes that make the outfit, so he starts from the ground up when pulling together a look. He admits to basketball shorts and T-shirts when he’s in football mode, but the rest of the time, Jackson is living up to his Fly Guy reputation.

    Suits from LA

His suits come from Alba Legacy in Los Angeles and he favors online shopping sites like Mr. Porter, Farfetch and Hudson in lieu of brick-and-mortar stores. Fortunately, Jackson is average height and lithe, so he appreciates the ability to buy off-the-rack without many alterations.

“It means a lot to me to be best dressed on the team. It’s definitely an honor,” Jackson said.

Jackson is humble about his stylish reputation and is clearly flattered by the attention. “It means a lot to me to be best dressed on the team. It’s definitely an honor,” he said.

The Fly Guy T-shirts $34.99-$49.99 and hats are $39.99 and are available at the Go Texans store at NRG Stadium and online at shop.houstontexans.com.

Jackson isn’t sure exactly where Fly Guy will land next, but considering his love for shoes, we wouldn’t be surprised if somewhere down the line he expands to footwear. For now, this former Crimson Tide player is only thinking about his Sunday job.

“I’m concentrating on football right now and Fly Guy is a great opportunity to connect with fans,” Jackson said.

Houston bootmaker, Republic Boot Company, turns gator hunts into a custom pair of boots.

In Houston, where custom boots are a source of great pride and style, one local brand is taking the bespoke boot experience to a new level. Republic Boot Company, known for its elevated, hand-crafted creations, just launched a Gator Hunt Experiencewhere customers can source an alligator hide, which will be transformed into a pair of cowboy boots.

Part adventure and part traditional craftsmanship, the experience begins with a hunt in the marshlands near Anahuac, about an hour from Houston, and ends with a custom-made pair of alligator-skin cowboy boots tailored to the client's vision by a Republic Boot Company boot specialist.

"At Republic Boot Company, we pride ourselves on crafting boots that are not just footwear, but a legacy," said Chris Conrad, owner of Republic Boot Company. "This new Gator Hunt Experience takes that commitment to personalization to an unprecedented level, offering our customers a unique and memorable journey taking them from the bayou to the heart of the Bayou City."

The gator hunt is $5,000 per person and includes an 8.5-foot alligator (larger alligators incur extra costs). Individuals of all experience levels can participate, and all necessary permits and equipment are provided to ensure a safe adventure. After the hunt, the hide will be tanned during an eight-month process to ensure a one-of-a-kind pair of boots. Just in case the kicks aren't enough of a conversation starter, participants will also receive a professional mount of the alligator head.

Alligator hunting season runs from September 11 to September 30, so the boots won't be ready for the 2026 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Once they are complete, however, they will be wearable pieces of art with a memorable story behind them. Those interested in extending their only-in-Texas half-day hunt into an overnight experience can book overnight accommodations through Republic Boot Company.
