Gwen Stefani's fashion comeback: L.A.M.B. collection features ska-meets-SoCal style & dancing models
NEW YORK — After a three-year hiatus, Gwen Stefani returned to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in her unique way. Rather than put on a traditional runway show for her L.A.M.B. spring 2015 collection, the pop superstar, whose profile has grown a lot bigger lately since she recently joined The Voice, showcased the collection atop a bar featuring models with feathers in their hair swaying to a tribal beat while large images of a multimedia fashion film flashed on surrounding walls.
It's a cool collection that's more mature than previous efforts — after all it's the brand's 10th anniversary and Stefani now has three children, including a son born six months ago.
It was a little bit like being trapped inside a music video.
Yet it was a refreshing way to get a good glimpse of the collection, which reflects Stefani's laidback ska-meets-SoCal style.
She peppers the collection, which she calls the "New Nomad," with tops, loose pants and even totes in multicolor brushstroke prints of hot orange, aqua and black. Halter dresses in batik prints and sleeveless print maxi dresses reflect a languid style while colorblock black-and-white jumpsuits and fuchsia stretch slacks with a black-and-white track top exude a more urban attitude.
It's a cool collection that's more mature than previous efforts — after all it's the brand's 10th anniversary and Stefani now has three children, including a son born six months ago. But there are still plenty of separate pieces, along with some nifty footwear, like spiky wraparound stilettos, for the girl who still just wants to have fun.
Here's a snippet from the presentation. As you can tell, some of the models could dance better than others, as I captured in this short video:
