OK, so New York’s Fashion’s Night Out includes celebrities. And designers. And Broadway stars. And celebrity designers who sing with Broadway stars.
Whatever.
There were short dresses, high heels and a palpable energy in Houston at Fashion’s Night Out parties from The Galleria to the River Oaks Shopping Center. People were out en masse to see, be seen, do some free cocktailing and actually do some shopping. That was, after all, the goal of the second annual event and from the looks of it, people were more than willing to comply.
Before afternoon turned to evening, The Galleria was hopping and parking was scarce. Stores like YSL, Jimmy Choo, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom were packed.
By the looks of it, women especially, got the memo to go glam. Every floor of Neiman Marcus was busy, but the first floor cosmetic and shoe departments were simply frenetic. Over at Saks Fifth Avenue, the crowds were heavy, especially around the food and cocktail tables, the food compliments of CityCentre restaurants. Andre, a shirtless model with the sparkly Bond No. 9 flag sparkling on his bare chest was a popular photo op at Saks. Of course, the bulk of people were drawn to Polar Ice for fashion shows and just as important, a place to rest their high-heeled feet.
A short drive away, stores in River Oaks Shopping Center celebrated Fashion’s Night out with bites, sips and of course, shopping. The crowd at 310 Rosemont included Neil Hamil, Roz Pactor (who was also spotted at Neiman Marcus) and designer David Peck, whose raffle tickets benefitted the Baylor International Pediatric AIDS Initiative and gave shoppers a chance to win one of Peck’s designs.
There was a certain sense of solidarity too, like if you were out in it, you were in on it. No matter where you were though, it certainly felt like all the world was a runway. At least, for one night in September.
