Haute stuff: Fashion's big night out will preview latest fall trends at Fashionon the Ave block party
When Vogue magazine editor Anna Wintour came up with the idea for Fashion's Night Out four years ago as a celebration of shopping and a way to boost the economy, it seemed like a one-time idea contained to New York. But FNO has steadily expanded to 500 cities and 19 countries, giving shoppers an opportunity to go out for the evening, have some fun, peruse the latest trends and maybe even buy something.
The interior street of the shopping complex at Kirby and Westheimer will be cordoned off for a big block party and fashion show featuring fall looks from Q Custom Clothier, Rye 51, Ivannia Boutique, Sam and lilli, Tootsies and Ivory Bridal Atelier.
West Ave is the newest participant in this year's showcase of shopping in Houston, with a Thursday night fashion extravaganza co-hosted by CultureMap. It starts at Tootsies, where a fall shopping preview will take place at 7 p.m.
The interior street of the shopping complex at Kirby and Westheimer will be cordoned off for a big block party and fashion show at 8:30 p.m. featuring fall looks from Q Custom Clothier, Rye 51, Ivannia Boutique, Sam and lilli, Tootsies and Ivory Bridal Atelier. I'll be emceeing the fashion show and drummer/DJ Don Vaughn will provide the tunes.
The first 300 guests will receive an exclusive gift-with-purchase Fashion’s Night Out tote filled with special offers and goodies from West Ave retailers. Other activies will include a personal appearance by jewelry designer Shelly Kidney of BuJu, mini-makeovers, fashion photo opps, light bites and cocktails.
After the fashion show ends, the revelry will continue with Fashion on the Avenue’s After Party at Cru, Alto, Katsuya and St. Genevive. The restaurants will be open regular hours for the event.
Recently, West Ave marketing specialist Michelle Yeglic and I previewed some of fall's hottest looks that will be on display at Fashion's Night Out Fashion on the Ave runway show. Among the big trends: Bold colors, leather leggings, oversized handbags, sparkly loafers and a mix of leather and cotton fabric for women and monocromatic colors for men. See the video above for a sneak peek of these and other fall trends.
Other Fashion's Night Out activities will be taking place at The Woodlands, The Galleria, Rice Village and River Oaks Shopping Center. For a full report, look for CultureMap contributor Heather Staible's Fashion's Night Out preview in CultureMap on Wednesday.
