TOMS, Sun & Ski Sports go artsy for a good cause
- Artists use water resistant paint on TOMS shoes.
- Shoppers are encouraged to use their imagination when commissioning a shoe.
- The custom paint event is from noon to 4 p.m.
It’s not hard to get excited about shoes, but when a pair of shoes goes beyond fashion and becomes philanthropic, it only deepens the love affair. TOMS and local Sun & Ski Sports stores are making it easy to create your own warm fuzzy feeling during the TOMS Custom Paint event Saturday.
Sun & Ski Sports stores are the No. 1 seller of TOMS shoes in Texas and the Westheimer, Memorial City, Katy Mills and Bay Area locations are part of the event, which encourages shoppers to donate a gently worn pair of shoes in exchange for a $5 dollar off coupon on a new pair of TOMS. Artists will be on hand at the four stores to paint TOMS shoes with water resistant paints from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It’s $10 a pair to commission a pair of shoes.
TOMS was created by Blake Mycoskie, who discovered the worldwide need for children’s shoes while traveling to Argentina. The design is simple, but thousands of the solid color slip-on shoes have been given to children around the world as a result of the One for One Movement. For every pair of shoes purchased, Mycoskie gives one pair to a child in need.
