The Mommy Stylist
Jewelry Thief auctions off accessories for a steal to Facebook fashionistas
We are always searching for ways to help busy moms pump up their wardrobes affordably. Our most recent discovery, the Jewelry Thief, does just that.
The Facebook-based accessories auction was founded four months ago by Dallasite and Southern Methodist University grad Vickie Velis, who knows moms don't have time to shop and often don't spend a lot of money on themselves. She also knows accessories, because for years she's been the buyer of all the knickknacks at Deno's, her husband's shoe repair store.
Jewelry Thief not only helps other moms, but it also allows Velis to spend more time at home with her kids while spreading her entrepreneurial wings.
Velis calls it an auction because inventory is limited, and pieces are "first come, first served," so once they're gone, they're gone.
Here's how it works. Auctions are held Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. At that time, Velis posts photos of the available items, which may include bracelets, necklaces, rings, earrings or scarves. Buyers who have already "liked" the page can leave a comment of "sold" under the pieces they want. Payment is handled via PayPal.
Velis calls it an auction because inventory is limited, and pieces are "first come, first served," so once they're gone, they're gone. And because all of her selections are on-trend, Jewelry Thief is a bit like having a personal shopper.
Nothing is priced above $40, and shipping is free on every order. Velis says that minimal overhead allows her to keep prices low.
"We offer fun and inexpensive jewelry that allows moms and young women to constantly keep their accessories fresh and trendy without costing them a small fortune."
