UGGS Overload?
UGG opens an entire Houston store, but promises it's not just about those boots
UGG Australia has debuted its first stand-alone retail store in Houston, just in time for the hot weather. But don't worry, the retailer is offering a lot more than just their original sheepskin boots.
Upon seeing the large assortment of shoes lining the wall, ranging from sparkly flats to summery sandals, at the new boutique near Macy's in Galleria II during a launch party last week, it's clear the store also has footwear that is just right for the Houston climate.
Area manager Lesley Moss points out that, in addition to the variety of shoes for women, men and children, the store also offers a full range of accessories, including handbags, gloves and hats, and apparel. Though small, the store has a rustic feel, with frosted glass, slight hints of metal, wood floors and ceilings, that makes it seem larger.
Though this is the first urban location in Texas it won't be the last. Moss says UGG plans to open a Dallas store within the next year or two.
UGG Australia decided to open its first concept store in Texas after receiving many requests from customers throughout the state, Moss says. (There is an UGG outlet store in San Marcos, but this is the first full-service retail store in the state.)
The Galleria was chosen because of its location and the large number of "international customers," according to Moss.
To celebrate the grand opening, UGG Australia presented a check to Texas Children's Hospital's Jonathan Howard. The retailer traditionally supports a local cause that serves children and families when it opens a store in a new market.
"We knew coming into Texas that Texas Children's Hospital was a great hospital so we wanted to work with them," UGG representative Caitlin Carpenter says.
Among those checking out the new store were Channel 2's KPRC Courtney Zavala, KHOU Channel 11's Matt Musil and KBRE's Annie Musil, Ted Bowen, Ashley McGee, Courtney Culver, Monica Abney, Bethany Buchanan and Tracy Muller.
