Time to shop: Huge deals on big-name designer clothes this weekend
July in Houston: It must be time for a big sale. Many of the city's top retailers are clearing out their summer merchandise to get ready for fall. Yeah, we know that's hard to believe, with temperatures hovering around 100 degrees with no end in sight, but that's the way the fashion calendar works.
However, the quirks of fashion mean big savings on clothing you can wear for several more months — or throughout the year. Here's a rundown of some of the big sales to catch this weekend.
Elizabeth Anthony Esther Wolf in Uptown Park is hosting its annual High Class Garage Sale, Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The one-of-a-kind one day sale features specialty drinks, desserts and big discounts on designer merchandise. Choose from such big names as Marchesa Couture, Armani Collezioni, Herve Leger, Alexis Bittar, Kate Spade and Judith Leiber, with some discounts up to 80 percent off original prices.
Tootsies is calling its extravaganza of discount offerings, which is going on now, "The Queen of All Sales." Take up to 70 percent off designer collections, dresses, sportswear, shoes, accessories, handbags, and jewelry. Among the designer names: Alice + Olivia, BCBG, Parker and Theory in the contemporary area; Jimmy Choo, Ferragamo, Stuart Weitzman and Kors by Michael Kors in shoes; and denim from JBrand, Citizens of Humanity and Mother.
Neiman MarcusLast Call Sale offers up to 65 percent off of regular prices on women's and men's apparel, shoes, accessories and other items. Such name brands as Oscar de la Renta, Diesel, 7 for All Mankind, Ralph Lauren, Dolce & Gabbana, Phillip Lim, and Rachel Zoe are on the sale rack.
"Buy more, save more" is the theme at M Penner's Final Summer Sale. Buy one or more items from the same category (shirts and knits, pants, suits and sportcoasts) and save even more. It works this way: Get 50 percent off one item, 60 percent off on two and 70 percent off on three items. Choose from among Zegna, Isaia, Z Zegna, Etro, Eton, John Varvatos and Citizens for Humanity for men; women's brands include AG denim, Les Copains, Moschino Cheap and Chic, Nicole Miller and Paul & Shark. The summer sale continues through July 20 at the Uptown Park boutique.
Saks Fifth Avenue's Designer Sale features up to 60 percent off on men's, women's and children's clothing and accessories. Such big names in women's fashion as Diane von Furstenberg, Vince, Tahari and Tory Burch are on sale, as are menswear items from Bruno Cuchinelli, Dolce & Gabbana, Brioni and Prada. There's also a large kid's collection from Lilly Pulitzer, Burberry, DKNY and Juicy Couture, among others.
