Akris sets opening date for Houston store; new handbag designed for debut
The luxe Swiss brand Akris has set a date for the opening of its Houston store. The new 2,286-square-foot boutique will debut at River Oaks District on August 1.
It will be the seventh U.S. boutique for the label that is favored by such luminaries as former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, Diane Sawyer, Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie. The Houston store will offer Akris clothing and accessories as well as the more moderately priced Akris Punto brand.
To celebrate, Akris creative director Albert Kriemler has created an exclusive handbag available only in the Houston boutique. The Ai Horsehair Messenger bag in burgundy will retail for $2,990.
“Today, I cannot imagine how I would have made it in the U.S. without the enthusiastic support of the independent and fashion forward women of Texas. This is especially true in Houston, with their refined and modern taste," Kriemler said in a statement. "The Akris boutique in Houston is a tribute to their sense of style, where I look forward to offering the entire world of Akris also to the next generation of sleek, chic Texas women.”
The new Akris store will combine modern and classic elements, including a curvilinear maple wood wall in white, matte marble floors, a dark brown leather armchair, a polished stainless steel trapezoid side table designed by Hilmer & Sattler and Albrecht architects, and the Cherner Chair by Mid-century U.S. architect and designer Norman Cherner — a signature element in every Akris store.
The Hirsch Construction Corp. is the general contractor for the project.
