Fashion Houston 2012
BCBG Max Azria and Hervé Léger highlight Fashion Houston 2012 lineup
Talk about being tri-coastal. Directly from the New York runways, two of the most popular collections from Los Angeles designers Max and Lubov Azria will highlight Fashion Houston 2012, CultureMap has learned.
The Azrias' popular BCBG collection for spring 2013, which will be shown at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in early September, will crown the opening night of Houston's fashion extravaganza on Nov. 12 and the super-sexy Hervé Léger collection of bandage dresses, which will also be shown at New York fashion week, will be featured in Houston on Nov. 14.
Fashion Houston will take place Nov. 12-15 at the Wortham Theater Center's Grand Foyer. Organizers moved the dates from October in order to lure more top name designers to Houston for the whirwind week of fashion activities. Officials are currently negotiating with other top fashion names, including a young designer known for outfitting red carpet celebrities, and hope to make an announcement soon.
BCBG and Hervé Léger join a variety of collections from 16 top designers that will be showcased during Fashion Houston's third year. Also on tap are Houston designers David Peck, Chloe Dao and Jerri Moore.
Max Azria started BCBG, named for the French phrase, "bon chic, bon genre" (good style, good attitude), in 1989 and became known for offering designer fashion at affordable prices and has since added a string of high fashion brands. He and his wife, Lubov, acquired the Hervé Léger line, which was created in 1985 by a French designer with body-hugging materials traditionally associated with foundation garments, and debuted their version in 2008 at New York fashion week.
As the company's creative director, Lubov Azria leads the design team and oversees marketing and merchandizing for the Max Azria's 20-plus labels. "We're a great combo," she has said in describing her working relationship with her husband. "Max is the visionary, and I'm more detail-oriented. It creates the perfect balance."
The couple will make a joint appearance during both collections at Fashion Houston.
