Abercrombie & Fitch recently recruited 101 shirtless men with killer torsos to draw attention to its new store on the tourist-packed Avenue des Champs-Elysées in Paris. The guys stood on the fabled avenue outside the store, which is hidden from the street. Customers enter through a gilded wrought-iron gate along a tree-lined path to get to the store's entrance.
The store is the first in France for the American chain that emphasizes sex appeal to sell T-shirts, jeans and other casual wear to teenagers and college-age men and women.
Regretfully, the Paris outlet opened before our own Shelby Hodge arrived to report on the Liasons au Louvre II gala.
Despite the opening in Paris and other Europe cities (stores are planned this year in Madrid, Dusseldorf, Brussels and Dublin ), Abercrombie & Fitch Co. shares fell six percent last week after its chief financial officer said second-quarter results won't be as good as the first.
