Plans underway for first-ever Audi Houston Fashion Week
It was a doubleheader at Susan Krohn's palatial River Oaks home Tuesday when designer Cesar Galindo took over for announcement of the premiere Audi Houston Fashion Week and for a presentation of his fall collection.
Standing in the luxe marble foyer, a dazzling crystal chandelier overhead, Galindo lifted the curtain on the Oct. 11—Oct. 15 spectacular featuring men's and women's fashions for spring 2011. While designer appearances are still being confirmed, the Audi HFW team is planning a week of parties, trunk shows, retail events and an important award presentation.
Neal Hamil, recently returned from two decades in New York where he ran the women's division at Eileen Ford and was top gun at the Elite modeling agency, is organizing the first Annual Lifetime Achievement Award to be presented at the closing night gala to his former partner and fashion world icon Eileen Ford.
With the major events scheduled to take place at Wortham Theater Center, Audi HFW has the blessings of Mayor Annise Parker. Model Lauren Bush has offered her support.
The team is comprised of Momentum Audi general manager Jared Lang, who serves as Audi HFW president; executive producer Bambi Lynn; co-producers Gregory Triana and Sean B. Nutley; and production director Erica Renée. Galindo holds the title of creative director and Hamil is serving as an advisor and consultant.
Lending an ear to the proceedings and applauding Galindo's daring designs were several dozen fashionistas and trendsetters. It was an afternoon of champagne, light bites and schmoozing before they took their places in gilded chiavari chairs for the proceedings. As a special treat for guests, Galindo tapped up-and-coming tenor Mete Tasin to perform familiar arias while models showing gowns, party clothes and day wear descended the spiral staircase into the foyer. Adding to the fashion allure – colorful, dramatic baubles and beads from Baroness Elizabeth.
