Where to shop right now: 10 cool, must-hit stores for May
As spring morphs into summer, shopping habits change, but there is still plenty to check out. In our May edition of Where to Shop Now, unique offerings and new stores abound.
Baby, Go Green, an eco-friendly store offering baby and kid gear, gifts, toys, apparel, bedding and furniture, has opened in CityCentre. After years of scouring stores to find elusive organic, quality, durable, imaginative and safe children’s products, Texas native Debra Ibáñez decided to launch a different kind of children’s boutique, offering personally, hand-picked organic products.
British accessible luxury brand L.K.Bennett, a favorite of Princess Kate, has just launched a limited edition vintage-inspired shoe line for spring/summer. Styles include a kitten heel, a pump, and a sandal, each available in a choice of blush or navy floral print from the L.K.Bennett archive. The collection ($275 to $375) is available at the L.K. Bennett store in the Galleria.
After a successful foray into the Houston market with a store at Market Street in The Woodlands, the Boho vintage-loving younger sister to J.Crew officially opens June 4 in Galleria IV, but we're hoping for a peek at the new digs before then. Enjoy muted neons, soft stripes, and pretty patterns in the spring/summer 2013 collection plus a selection of new labels. Perfect dresses to wear to Free Press Summer Fest.
These two French favorite über-cool Parisian brands run by sisters are now carried at the Nordstrom Galleria store. Maje takes a twist on the classic with a focus on glamorous pieces and sharp details, with a resolutely feminine silhouette. Sandro is as uniquely special, feminine and distinctly French.
Their first hit was a series of dresses in patterned patchwork with bubble sleeves that were bohemian-chic and loose but with a real style and presence. Both have grown to be a label known for feminine, versatile dressing.
Although this year’s Met Gala has passed, punk continues to reign supreme, as Miu Miu recently launched the new Rasoir sunglass capsule collection. The collection, the “result of alternative elegance, stemming from contradiction,” is available at the Galleria Miu Miu boutique and select opticians.
David Peck is almost single-handedly putting Houston on the fashion map. He recently opened a spacious design studio/manufacturing facility at 3200 Kirby Drive, where his collections are made and displayed. Now he has now added a wedding atelier with just about everything a bride needs, including made-to-measure wedding gowns, along with custom and ready-to-wear designs for the wedding party, from mother-of-the-bride to flower girl— all made in Houston.
After recently opening an outpost at CityCentre, J. Crew debuts a big new store in a porition of the space vacated by Tootsies in Highland Village, next door to Anthropologie. The 8,500-square-foot store includes a separate J. Crew Men's shop, which features the signature Ludlow suit, and an expanded women's shop with an handbag and shoe salon in addition to pieces from the more upscale J. Crew Collection.
Langford Market and its sister store, Addison, have joined forces to create the new Langford Market at Market Street in The Woodlands. The modern mix of fashion features footwear, bags, clothing and accessories from both stores in one location next to Charming Charlie.
For the first time, Kate Spade has teamed with the Starwood Preferred Guest program to design four limited edition totes inspired by 2013 Member Favorite Resort list, identifying 71 of Starwood's top resort destinations around the world. The canvas totes are peppered with a witty phrase in a bright color that corresponds with a destination — “Rest & Relaxation” refers to a spa indulgence, “Love Is In The Air,” naturally, refers to a romantic retreat; a paradise island is a "Paradise Island," and a golf getaway is "Par for the Course."
The totes, which retail for $199 each, are available at the Kate Spade Galleria store.
Macy's celebrates Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month with a special in-store performance of the platinum-selling group Far East Movement at Macy's First Colony Mall store Sunday May 19 at 2 p.m. The group is know for their hits “Like a G6” and “Rocketeer."
The first 250 Macy’s customers to make a purchase of $50 or more from the Junior’s or Young Men’s departments will receive the opportunity to get their picture taken with the band as well as a special gift with purchase (as time and supply permits).
