Who you gonna call in a little black dress emergency?
Last week a friend of mine had a little black dress emergency. As in, she didn’t have one and she needed to find an LBD ASAP!
She had about an hour to shop so she texted me asking for suggestions.
I sent her to The Galleria and said White House/Black Market, Nordstrom and the upstairs dress department at Dillard’s. I know most people think old lady when they hear Dillard’s, but the dress selection is expansive and while there’s nothing Alexander McQueen would have approved of, there are plenty of choices for all kinds of occasions and body types. In between texts, my friend Jennifer shopped and soon sent me the following message.
“You were right about Dillard's. Why do I always forget them? Anyhow, I now have three Plan Bs, because it's really no fun unless you're truly frantic.”
We all know that frenzied, nothing-to-wear feeling, but no woman should ever be without an LBD.
Neil Hamil Modeling Agency and Fashion Group Foundation of Houston celebrates the iconic dress at The Little Black Dress Project, Wednesday at the House of Blues.
Ten fashion students from Texas schools are up for scholarships based on their little black dress designs chosen by local celebrity and media judges and guests get to see the design student’s LBD interpretations at an 8 p.m. fashion show. Tickets are $10 and doors open at 6:30 p.m.
— If you feel like party-hopping, Wednesday is your night. Craft Salon is hosting Jewelry Makes Me Happy Hour from 6-8 p.m., unveiling the spring Stella and Dot collection. Drop by for wine and affordable jewelry favored by Hollywood celebs and Houston girls about town.
Pretty baubles are also on the dance card at DeVille Fine Jewelry for the HAUTE Spring! For Ladies and Gentlemen! Event from 6:30-8:30. Houston’s own jazz singer Kristine Mills performs and there will be plenty of sips, bites and even hand-rolled cigars. A portion of proceeds benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Houston.
— We have about two more weeks for non-sweaty poolside parties to be enjoyable and there are fewer spots more elegant than the Four Seasons Hotel. The hotel is teaming up with the Houston Downtown Alliance and other downtown luminaries for Haute Town...Summer in the City, Saturday from 7 p.m.-1 a.m.
The crowd is chic, the poolside fashion show is cool and it’s a great way to kickoff summer. Tickets are $30 for HDA, Emerging Leaders and HYPA members, $30 until Thursday and $40 after and all tickets include complimentary cuisine, wine, champagne, Patrón cocktails & entry to after party at QBAR at Four Seasons Hotel.
A limited number of $100 tickets are also available and include poolside reserved seating and complimentary bottle service.
