Style on wheels: Cynthia Rowley's shopping truck rolls into Houston

In New York and Los Angeles, it’s nothing new for a vacant storefront to be secretly taken over by a design team and then, voila, a new store "pops up" in the middle of the night. Sometimes Winnebagos are transformed into lush boutiques, but rarely do they stray beyond their fashionable West and East Coast borders. That's about to change.
Designer Cynthia Rowley is making a run — er, roll —into Houston with her own Shop on Wheels "pop up" store. Rowley, who lives life with a touch of whimsy — she once had a dinner party and ordered takeout for each course —has transformed a shipping truck into a modern boutique with hardwood floors, printed-fabric walls, Lucite fixtures, a fitting room and her entire collection, including clothing, shoes, bags, eyewear, jewelry and legwear.
The temporary fashion truck will takes over the corner of Westheimer and Sage, next to Saks Fifth Avenue Thursday through March 21.
Houston is just one stop on the cross-country store tour; it has already made appearances in Miami and Atlanta and will pop by Dallas and San Antonio before heading to the West Coast. In an effort to make shopping more accessible, customers can also schedule a time for the Rowley style RV to set up shop in their own driveway or arrange for a Cynthia Rowley stylist to do a private fitting at home or work.
