Galleria's newest boutique, Nordy on the scene, Halston hangs around
The “I don’t have a thing to wear” excuse just won’t fly right about now. New stores are open and exclusive lines are debuting in Houston with such velocity that you may very well be tempted to do some wardrobe changes multiple times a day.
Stroll Down Apricot Lane
There’s an interesting shift occurring in malls these days. As department stores pull out and national retailers downsize, small boutiques are making an entrance and staking a claim. One such shop is Apricot Lane, a new women’s boutique in The Galleria. Apricot Lane is a shop for women who like a little sparkle, whether on their bags, jeans or fingers and carries familiar on-trend labels such as Joe’s jeans, Paige Premium Denim Velvet, Hale Bob and Kensie. Apricot Lane is fun, affordable and the kind of place to stop before a night out with friends and a definite rodeo-wear destination.
Finally! Nordstrom Rack in Houston
After great fanfare and anticipation, Nordstrom Rack is open in Houston. The 30,000-square-foot store in the Centre at Post Oak is exactly what we shoppers have hoped for, with great selection, designer brands and ridiculously good prices.
Purses and accessories (including hair care and beauty products) flank the entrance and a few steps further in, shoppers will delight in denim by Seven for All Mankind, Citizens of Humanity and Rock & Republic among others. Boutique lines by Pink Tartan, BCBG and Lafayette 148, plus very affordable wardrobe basics and accessories for women and men are found throughout the store, but everyone knows shoes are the ultimate destination. More than 25,000 pairs of luxe-labled shoes line the racks in the back of the store for women (in sizes 4-13) and men (sizes 7-16).
Nordstrom Rack prices are 30 to 70 percent off regular retail and the merchandise comes from Nordstrom stores across the country and Nordstrom.com. New items also come in daily thanks to special orders Nordstrom Rack buyers get directly from vendors. Store employees are attentive, but unlike at the Nordstrom department store across the street, shoppers need to have a little more self-service attitude when perusing the racks. But if you need something nipped and tucked, in-store tailoring services are available.
Halston Heritage’s Vintage Modern at 310 Rosemont
It makes perfect sense really for Sarah Jessica Parker to take lead of the Halston Heritage Collection. Whether by her own eye or the leading of others, SJP is a style icon, so her involvement with the legendary line definitely falls under the “it takes one to know one” category. Hers isn’t the only exclusive deal though. Houston’s 310 Rosemont in River Oaks Shopping Center is currently the only boutique carrying the line of women’s clothing that incorporates a bit of the past with a modern mindset. Color and draping rule the incoming Halston Heritage line, which seems ideal for Houston’s climate and social scene. Carrie Bradshaw would be proud.
