Here Comes the Sun
NY-based boutique brings beachy vibe to new pop-up shop in River Oaks District
After the winter we’ve had in Houston, it’s about time to trade in our sweaters for swimsuits. As if on cue, Malia Mills is returning to the retail scene this month — just in time for warmer temps — with a new swimwear collection at a pop-up shop at River Oaks District.
This is the second Houston entrance for the New York-based swim/ready-to-wear and accessory boutique. The concept previously opened a Texas outpost in July 2014 on Westheimer and Kirby. The new 2,000-square-foot-space in River Oaks District will be open for business through June, bringing the concept of stand-alone bra-sized swimwear separates to the sophisticated shopping spot.
The opening of the new location celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Malia Mills brand and sizing concept to women hunting for swimsuits. The collection includes bra-sized tops from AA to an E cup and bottoms, tankinis, and maillots ranging in sizes from one to 16. Most of the suits are solid, non-fussy colors or muted prints, with subtle detailing.
For those not ready to dive into swim season just yet, there’s a selection of vacation-ready dresses, and even casual office -appropriate dresses and tops. Think feminine, but not fussy, with a bit of funky art teacher thrown in.
The jewelry is easily layered with other pieces, and meant to be thrown on with a swimsuit or daywear. Holiday-ready slides and clogs, cheeky bags, and easy throws and hats round out the offerings.
Ladies, consider this your gentle reminder that it’s never too early to start thinking of that swimsuit.
