Kate Spade to shutter all its trendy Saturday stores — including hyped Houston spot — but the label will live on
Kate Spade officials revealed Thursday that they will be closing all freestanding Kate Spade Saturday stores, including the Rice Village location.
No exact date was announced, although officials said the stores will be shuttered in the first half of 2015, according to a press release. The e-commerce site will remain in operation until all Kate Spade Saturday stores are closed. There are 19 Kate Spade Saturday stores in the United States.

The Kate Spade Saturday Rice Village store — the first and only one in Texas — opened to much fanfare in September 2013. The store, located on University Boulevard, has been targeted to a younger consumer, usually in her twenties and thirties, featuring items with the "same spirit of color and patterns" as the more upscale Kate Spade New York stores but at a lower price.
The Kate Spade Saturday label will be incorporated into the Kate Spade New York stores in Highland Village and The Galleria, hopefully by the spring 2016 collection, a spokesperson tells CultureMap.
It's been a rough couple of weeks for the chain, which temporarily closed the Highland Village Kate Spade New York store after a fire broke out in the ceiling. However, the store has been repaired and has reopened for business.
The company is also closing its 12 Jack Spade stores that feature men's clothing, but the brand will be available online. There is no freestanding Jack Spade store in Houston.
