With regular appearances on Project Runway, rapid boutique expansion (169 stand-alone stores in North America and 34 in Europe and Japan) and glittery fashion week shows, Michael Kors has become a household name. As he expands his fashion empire, Kors, who recently took his company public in a multimillion dollar stock transaction, has now set his sights on The Woodlands.
The designer plans to open a Michael Kors store at Market Street in March, according to an announcement on the Woodlands Development Company website. The new store will offer a complete selection of Kors handbags, apparel, shoes and accessories.
“The addition of Michael Kors is another step in creating a fashion-forward shopping experience that simply can’t be found anywhere else,” Market Street general manager Jill Liccioni said in a statement.
With a large and growing number of affluent Woodlands shoppers who don't necessarily want to travel into Houston, Market Street is earning a niche as the go-to place for upscale retailers.
It will be the second Kors store in the Houston area. The designer recently expanded his Galleria location.
With a large and growing number of affluent Woodlands shoppers who don't necessarily want to travel into Houston, Market Street is earning a niche as the go-to place for upscale retailers. Tiffany & Co. and Ann Taylor have debuted newly designed stores at Market Street that they plan to roll out across the nation. Other name stores include Brooks Brothers, Allen Edmonds, L’Occitane and Tommy Bahama.
Today, Kors is debuting a limited-edition handbag in the United States to benefit the Great East Japan Earthquake relief effort. The Hamilton bag is available for a 24-hour period exclusively on his website, through a link from the Michael Kors Facebook page. It will then be sold only in select Kors stores across the nation, including Dallas (but not Houston).
