Bargains galore!
It started with a bang: Fashion on Sale means great buys for smart shoppers
By all accounts, the first round of CultureMap's Fashion on Sale was a hit. Just ask Susan Hansen, who walked away with three designer dresses — $40 each at Times Two — or Vicki West, who picked up baby clothes at 40 pecent off for an upcoming shower. Or the oodles of gals swooning over the handbag and shoe bargains at Elaine Turner.
We spotted one happy customer leaving the Woody's Furs booth with a white mink jacket and matching hat for her upcoming ski vacation in Telluride. And there was the young woman picking up the Ippolita bracelet knock-offs for a song at Pomp and Circumstance. Hair stylist Cerón worked on models for the Tootsies parade of fashion while make-up artist Edward Sanchez showcased the fine art of false eyelash application. The blow dryers whirred and the scissors clipped and clipped in the Azur West pop-up salon.
And that's how it went Friday night when the doors opened on the inaugural evening of this mega shop-'til-you-drop opportunity. The bargains continue today and Sunday at West Ave at River Oaks in the vast second floor space dedicated to Fashion on Sale.
Thirty-four retailers have joined the throng, including Tootsies, David Peck, 7 For All Mankind, Hello Lucky and 5 Stack Vintage. We loved the chic pistol-holders fashioned from leather and repurposed Louis Vuitton handbags at The Vintage Contessa and were intrigued by the $99 offer (a $50 savings) for a vist from Squared Away, which promises to organize my mess of a closet.
As Merele Yarborough e-mailed later that night, "It was fun and we found some GREAT BUYS!"
The bargains continue through 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets, $20, are available at the door. Raffle tickets for a wealth of fashion prizes are on sale throughout the weekend and benefit Child Advocates. Get those raffle tickets at the Child Advocates booth just across from the entry.
