Mink and sable and fox, oh my!
Woody's Furs is taking a truckload of the sweetest pieces to West Ave forCultureMap's Fashion on Sale
You might have yet to hear of Woody's Furs, the unassuming boutique on Post Oak Boulevard that carries an alluring cache of divine coats, vests, jackets and capes. But this weekend, proprietor Woody Nassar is loading up his delivery truck and hauling a queen's ransom in furs to CultureMap's Fashion on Sale. You'll know him now.
We visited Woody in his boutique to check out the many offerings that he will share with savvy shoppers during the Friday night, Saturday and Sunday shopping extravaganza in West Ave (in the unoccupied space above Tootsies). He will be joining scores of retailers presenting seasonal merchandise at reduced prices. The savviest of all shoppers will be those who attend the Friday night swank cocktail party ($75 dollars) for an advance on the great buys.
Woody says that the items he is bringing range in price from $500 to $3,000 on sale. You can also expect a few spectacular pieces by Christian Dior, Giuliana Teso and Rosamori. Expect fun furs and serious pieces.

We looked through his collection of fur vests — he's bringing loads —and were captivated by the variety (no two alike). Long-hair rabbit vests with beading trim, knitted sheared rabbit, reversible leather and mink — the variety and color were endless. Perfect for the NFL playoffs and chilly rodeo nights.
In the fur business for 30 years, Woody opened his own store in April 2010, shortly after Richard Peters Furs, where he had worked for many years, closed. In fact, Richard Peters' furrier is now in-house with Woody and on this day was busy in the workroom remaking a fur coat for a client.
We perused the racks and racks of can't-live-without coats such as the reversible sheared mink raincoat, the sheared mink jacket with sable collars and cuffs, the chinchilla-trimmed cape, the cashmere coats with mink collars and cuffs and on and on.
Even before his Fashion on Sale participation, Woody's reputation was growing. Sheridan Williams and Karen Mayell, both Best Dressed Hall of Fame honorees, have discovered the fur retailer and did some serious Christmas shopping with him. We can't think of a more powerful endorsement.
This weekend is your opportunity to meet Woody. Tickets for Fashion on Sale start at $20, which allows entry on Jan. 14 from noon - 5 p.m. and all day Jan. 15, and, in addition to shopping, includes one drink, hors d'oevres and consultations with hair, makeup and life organizers.
