Houston's state-of-the-art racing simulator lounge sets opening date
Last October, Houston’s first premium simulation racing experience announced plans to open in Sawyer Yards. Now, we have a date.
Velocity - Sim Racing Lounge will have its grand opening on Saturday, March 1, at 2110 Edwards St. The party will include a live DJ, giveaways, trophies for racers and a live watch party for MotoGP’s first race of the year, the Thai Grand Prix.
This 5,000-square-foot, one-stop destination for all things racing will feature state-of-the-art simulators, a full bar and kitchen, and watch parties to experience racing events. Guests can immerse themselves in a racing adventure of their choice through one of Velocity’s 16 state-of-the-art racing simulators, equipped with full motion systems, immersive panoramic displays, and platforms that react to each on-screen movement.
“Our team has been working tirelessly to bring Velocity to the city of Houston, and I’m very proud of what we’ve built,” founder and owner Viet Tran said. “Whether you’re an avid racer, a racing newcomer, or just looking for an exciting environment to enjoy a cocktail, we have something for everyone. The goal has always been to build a community, and we are so excited to share Velocity with Houstonians.”
The kitchen and bar will also have some enticing, racing-inspired dishes and cocktails. Dishes include Japanese-inspired tsukune meatballs with teriyaki chicken and mashed garlic sweet potatoes; mushroom bechamel flatbread, a vegetarian flatbread topped with mushrooms, goat cheese, and a French bechamel sauce; and chicken diavolo taquitos, gluten-free, pan-fried taquitos with a chipotle sauce.
The cocktail menu celebrates legendary drivers, tracks, and events, including the Senna’s Caipirinha, the Spicy Cafe Racer (an espresso martini riff), and the Pace Car with cognac, cointreau, lemon, and orange.
Velocity will be open Monday through Thursday from 2-11 pm, Friday from noon to midnight, Saturday from 10 am to midnight and Sunday from 11 am to 8 pm. Drivers will fill out a one-time waiver and create a driver profile to track their Velocity racing career and lap times. Reservations for racing spots are strongly encouraged at velocitysimlounge.com, with walk-ins also welcome.
