Houston's cheeky new mini golf course and restaurant tees off this week
Houston’s newest mini golf course is ready to welcome players. Holey Moley Mini Golf Club will open this Friday, April 19.
Located in the former Harlow’s Food & Fun space in the same building as the Regal Edwards Greenway movie theater (3839 Wesleyan St.), Holey Moley is an Australia-based concept with three, 9-hole golf courses. The holes all feature whimsical designs and punny names, such as the Jaws-themed “Gone Fishin;” the “Holey Molar” that features a giant toothpaste tube and a hole inside an open mouth; and the “Parber Shop” that mimics a salon with a barber’s chair and black-and-white floor tiles. Others reference pop culture moments from the 80s and 90s with names like Smells Like Tee Spirit, Par for the Corpse, Fore Letter Word, Birdie Hunter, and Mazed and Confused.
Other interior details include murals by Texas artist Goodluck Buddha and plenty of places to snap shots for social media, including a “Space Daddy” golf cart and punny neon signs. The venue’s sense of humor is also reflected in merchandise such as hats that read “Sex, Drugs, Rock & Hole” and knee-high golf socks with the motto “Let’s Talk About Socks, Baby.” DJs will perform every Friday and Saturday from 7-11 pm to enhance the venue’s lively atmosphere.
Holey Moley offers a 100-seat bar and restaurant called The Caddy Shack. The menu puts a Texas spin on classic American comfort food, such as wings, nachos, salads, and sandwiches. Specific dishes include:
- Chopped Brisket Sandwich with fried onions, house pickles, slaw, and cheddar cheese served on Texas toast
- Taco Salad with romaine lettuce, tomato, black beans, ground beef, cheddar, guacamole, sour cream, salsa
- Grilled Elote Corn Ribs with cotija cheese, garlic aioli, Tajin, and lime
Pizza options include the Ricotta Margherita and the A Lotta Meat that’s topped with prosciutto, salami, bacon, pepperoni, sausage, and shaved pecorino. Some of the cocktails come with photo-worthy presentations such as the Rub a Dub in the Tub, which is served in a mini bathtub, or the Pop Till You Drop, served in a unicorn.
Australia-based company Funlab developed Holey Moley. They’ve opened two other U.S. locations: Denver in fall 2023 and Austin earlier this month.
"We are absolutely thrilled to bring Holey Moley Mini Golf Club to Houston!” Funlab’s Global CEO Michael Schreiber said in a statement. “Our brand of “motherfunner” entertainment is a perfect fit for this vibrant and diverse city. We look forward to being a part of the Houston fun as we take putt putt to a whole new level!"
Holey Moley opens at noon Monday-Friday and 11 am on Saturday and Sunday. For more information, including reservations, head to the Holey Moley website.
