Um, Wow
Texas teen's epic $4 million birthday party morphs into viral sensation
The Henry family sure knows how to throw a party. After his sister's $6 million quinceanera went viral in 2016, San Antonio teen Thomas Henry countered with his own $4 million 18th birthday celebration. (Wonder if he's bitter about that extra $2 million spent on his sister?)
Henry, son of local attorney Thomas J. Henry and his wife, Azteca, rang in adulthood with an epic (and we do mean epic) 18th birthday party at the Hotel Discotheque on December 2. With the entire family decked out in Versace's 2018 collection, the Henrys celebrated young Thomas along with Ja Rule, Ashanti, Lance Bass, Rumer Willis, and Austin Mahone, among other celebs.
All in all, the party was just like my 18th birthday except mine took place in my parents' basement, and instead of Versace, I was wearing a rather fashionable T-shirt selected from the Delia's catalogue especially for the occasion.
The party also included live performances from Diplo, J Balvin, and Migos, whose performed the hit "Bad and Bougee." If you're over the age of 30, that's the song you heard on the radio all summer. It may have also been the song that got stuck in your head for weeks on end since you have no idea how to spell "bougee" and all attempts to Google it so you could learn the song proved futile.
And because our culture is now just one big episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, this story has of course gone viral. TMZ first picked up the story on December 7, followed by outlets like Refinery29, the Daily Mail, and the Mirror.
According to his Instagram, young Henry is currently recuperating from his birthday celebration in Miami where he posed in front of this painting of Andy Warhol during Art Basel. As for me, I'm going to go eat a $3 taco and think about my life choices.
