Cinema Arts Festival adds another Academy Award winner
Add another award-winner to the growing list of film celebs gracing Houston for the Cinema Arts Festival.
Isabella Rossellini is already committed and now, CultureMap has learned, so is an Oscar-winning documentarian. Alex Gibney (Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, Taxi to the Dark Side) will be in town to screen his latest film: My Trip to Al-Qaeda, an adaptation of journalist Lawrence Wright's acclaimed one-man play, itself a companion to the author's Pulitzer Prize-winning book, The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11.
Gibney will also screen his investigative work Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Elliott Spitzer, an in-depth look at what led to the fall of the disgraced New York Governor. The film includes interviews with the former Governor as well as former colleagues and concludes that Spitzer, though flawed, was targeted by powerful enemies on Wall Street.
The Cinema Arts Festival will be held Nov. 10-14 at Houston Visitors Center, Discovery Green, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Rice Media Center and Edwards Greenway Grand Palace Stadium 24. The event is the only festival in the United States devoted solely to films by and about visual, performing and literary artists.
