Oktoberfest in september
8 sudsy spots where you can raise a giant glass to Oktoberfest this weekend
Though we're still in September, the jolly, two-week, German beer festival known as Oktoberfest will be starting up in Munich, Germany on Saturday, September 22.
Houston's official Oktoberfest party gets brewing Saturday, September 29 and King's Oktoberfest won't have its celebratory weekends until October. But there are a few places in this city that are starting early this weekend and urging folks to show up in lederhosen, gorge on sausage, drink German beer from the biggest mug (known as a stein) that they can find — and just go nuts.
As usual, we have a list of those places:
Bar Louie
Expect an all-day kickoff party, with $3.50 Sam Adams, Angry Orchard drafts, and half-price Bavarian flatbread and pretzels. And don't forget the stein-hoisting competition! 10 am-2 am.
Bowl and Barrel
This spot will offer up two weeks' worth of goodness. From Sunday through October 7, you can get pairings of craft beers and sausages any way you like it. 11 am-midnight. (11-2 am Friday and Saturday)
Conservatory
Things go all out with its Saturday shindig: stein giveaways, brewery-swag raffles, a stein-holding contest, special menus, and tons of German beer on tap. Noon-6 pm.
Houston Liederkranz
Crash two parties on Saturday and October 13. Both dates will have beer, food, and live music from professional Oktoberfest band Night Session. 7-11 pm.
Karbach Brewing Co.
Look for the annual "Karbachtoberfest" concert series for the next three weekends beginning Thursday, September 20. Two Tons of Steel and Los Skarnales will perform this weekend. 5-10 pm.
Little Woodrow's
Raise a stein at the "Oktoberfest in the Heights" parking-lot party on Saturday. There will be food, beer, live music, and of course, a stein-hoisting contest and wiener dog races. Noon.
Sheraton North Houston at George Bush International
You'll have a place to crash at this Oktoberfest celebration on Saturday, complete with $5 seasonal Samuel Adams beers all day along. 9 am-9 pm.
Quail Valley
TheMissouri City neighborhood will be the home to the city's Oktoberfest festivities on Saturday. Texas Biergarten and Texas Leaguer Brewing Co. will be there with food and beer. Noon-4 pm.
