Party Notes
New Houston coworking space draws a crowd with fun and funky party
What: Houston WeWork opening party
Where: WeWork at 708 Main
The 411: Coworking enthusiasts gathered to celebrate the grand opening of H-Town's two new WeWork locations (the other is located at 2700 Post Oak Blvd. in Galleria Tower I). Attendees munched on pizza from Pi Pizza and hand-rolled sushi from Uchi, with sweet wisps from Twirl Cotton Candy satisfying everyone's sweet tooth.
In addition to getting a caffeine boost from Boomtown coffee, guests could quench their thirst with custom libations mixed by bartenders from Sourced Craft Cocktails or pop open a cold canned cocktail from Cutwater Spirits. Nue vodka, Title 21 whiskey, Saint Arnold beer, and cider from Austin Eastciders rounded out the drink choices.
When folks weren't poking their heads into the funky meeting rooms or playing a game or two of ping pong, they were watching Loud Print House screen-print T-shirts or posing at the Simple Booth selfie station.
UP Studio artist Elizabeth Umanzor treated the crowd to a live painting, creating a unique work of art in the party's three-hour time span.
Not only did visitors get a sense of the building's future (and possibly their new professional future within it), but they also learned of its past from Dave Morris, co-chair of Preservation Houston's Pier & Beam group. Morris outlined the history of The Great Jones Building, which was built in 1908 and originally housed offices for Texaco. Now, in addition to being one of WeWork Houston's new homes, 708 Main is also the site of one of the first Flatiron School expansions outside of New York City.
WeWork Houston community director, Roniel Bencosme, outlined WeWork's perks, benefits, and impact, and that the two Houston locations have the capacity to serve close to 3,000 members. He pointed out that since 2010, the coworking giant has opened 283 locations around the world. The Houston crowd was more than happy to welcome WeWork to its city.
Take a peek at the party's highlights below, then plan to check out WeWork for yourself. You can swing by the Houston locations Monday through Friday, or pop in for a complimentary day of coworking. Learn more at we.co/hou.
