Matt Lauer's latest mistake: Today Show backstabber looks worse after Ann Currystays classy
Watching Ann Curry leave the Today Show was completely heartbreaking.
After watching Curry on the Today Show for as long as I can remember, I feel like she is a part of my morning routine — only now she is gone.
Curry gave a heartfelt speech (with a few tears) announcing her departure from the show after 15 years (and made it obvious she wasn't ready to leave). In her speech she said she is deeply grateful to viewers, whom she described as "the real Today Show family." I even started tearing up at this moment because I felt as if NBC was taking such a big part of our lives away by making her leave the show.
A little too soon, no? Couldn't they have waited for Curry's tears to dry before trotting out the new, younger co-host? AWKWARD!
As her speech continued, co-host, Matt Lauer seemed a little off, creating an awkwardness that was noticeable to viewers. Curry and Lauer didn't hold eye contact and their body language showed plenty of tension. Perez Hilton reported an insider described the atmosphere as "icy" and said, "You could cut the tension with a knife." And viewers could definitely notice because it was so awkward to watch.
The speculation about Lauer demanding a new co-host could have caused the uneasiness, but Curry stayed classy and went on with the speech by saying:
"You know, Matt and I have had great on-air chemistry for 14 years, been part of the No. 1 winning team for a history-making number of years. We've had a terrific relationship for all these years, and he's such a star . . .
"He's funny and glib, and he knows how the show works. It's been my honor in this last year to sit next to him."
Now that Curry is gone, all eyes are were on Savannah Guthrie, who has already been officially announced as Curry's replacement. At the beginning of Friday morning's broadcast (one day after Curry left), Guthrie sat in Curry's seat alongside Lauer.
A little too soon, no? Couldn't they have waited for Curry's tears to dry before trotting out the new, younger co-host? AWKWARD!
With all this drama, all I can say is poor Ann! And in my book Guthrie has some big shoes to fill.
