The princess with that bad bad boy habit, Anne Hathaway, continues to lose her sparkle — baubles gifted to her from former beau of four years, Raffaello Follieri, are headed to the auction block.
In August 2008, Follieri pleaded guilty to wire fraud and money laundering for swindling over $50 million from investors by claiming he had inside ties to the Vatican. Dubbed the "Vaticon," Follieri had showered his The Devil Wears Prada-star girlfriend with such jewels as a $25,000 Rolex Cosmograph Daytona watch and lavish, diamond-drenched earrings.
Her pretty little things were seized by the police, and Follieri, 31, was subsequently sentenced to 4 and 1/2 years in prison for all of his charges.
Federal Judge John Koeltl approved the auction in late May. Hathaway was offered the chance to bid for the jewelry first. She declined. Along with her 12 pieces, which range from $5,000 to $25,000 in value, the auction will also feature the Vaticon's 13 luxury watches, a strange Cartier figurine and a Tiffany clock — all seized from his Trump Tower apartment and a Bronx storage unit.
According to the NY Daily News, the items will eventually appear on the asset sale section of usmarshals.gov. Online window shopping has never looked this good.
