Joan Holloway always No. 1 to us
Christina Hendricks 2nd choice to a diva-dissed Scarlett Johannson — while ZacEfron waits in reserve
Esquire magazine editor David Granger had a particular actress in mind for the May 2010 "Women We Love" cover, and it wasn't Christina Hendricks, who is on the cover.
Fielding questions in Toronto, Granger admitted that he had originally wanted another ingenue on the cover: Scarlett Johansson. According to an insider quoted in the New York Daily News, Granger added, "Scarlett completely screwed us."
But while another Esquire tipster admits that Johansson was the first to be approached, he adds it's typical in the entertainment industry for schedules to change and cancellations to occur.
Granger has already once proven his love for Johansson, naming her Esquire's "Sexiest Woman Alive" in 2006.
An Esquire spokesperson noted that Hendricks, who portrays sultry secretary Joan Holloway on Mad Men, won the cover after Esquire posted a poll for readers to choose the best-looking woman in America, with Hendricks taking a commanding 30 percent of the vote over other candidates including Megan Fox, Zoe Saldana and, um, Zac Efron.
And of course, no one who picked up the issue, with Hendricks' curves busting out of her little black dress, could find much not to love about the final cover girl.
