Rap and foodies: Bun B and Uchi pairing is Free Press Summer Fest's hottest ticket
If you're a holder of Free Press Summer Festival Fancy Pants or High Roller wristbands, and if you aren't waiting by your computer for the release of tickets to the exclusive breakfast, perhaps you ought to re-think your Memorial Day plans.
This annual festival breakfast has been taken over this year by Feast: A Dinner Series, the fundraising collaboration between Uchi and the University of Houston's Blaffer Art Museum that brings food and art together in unpredictable ways.
Past seatings have focused on artists Mary Ellen Carroll and Lynne McCabe, and future dinners will feature Miguel Amat and The Art Guys, but at Free Press Summer Fest, it'll be all about inveterate Houston rapper Bun B and Uchi's renowned executive pastry chef, Philip Speer.
Bun's distinctive lyrics and verse will accompany each course of the meal, which will be complemented by cocktails from Ryan Rouse of Grand Prize Bar. It's fine art at its edgiest, and it's the only way to kick off the festival weekend like the high roller that you are.
Only 20 seats are available to the event, which takes place on June 1 at 11 a.m. at Eleanor Tinsley Park. Tickets cost $175 each and go on sale — announced in an email blast to Fancy Pants and High Roller ticket holders — at noon on Monday.
