Making Mother's Day
11 Mother's Day events in Houston to make the weekend special
Ah, Mother’s Day, that special time of year where you show the woman who brought you into this world, raised you, took care of you, and put up with all of your nonsense how much you love her, by...taking her to brunch?
Escorting Mom to dine on French toast and mimosas is all well and good. But there are other ways you and you moms can have some quality time together. Here are a few special things that are going on this Mother’s Day Weekend:
Saturday, May 12
Kingwood Garden Center will have a Mother’s Day potting event from 9:30 to 11:30 am. Pots, paint, soil and plants will be given to you, so you can create a lovely addition to your mom’s garden.
Lady M’s Boutique Pop-Up will be in Houston on Saturday and Sunday. They will be serving their Signature and Green Tea Mille Crepes at The Galleria. It’ll be from 11 am to 5 pm on both days.
Republic Harley-Davidson will be showering all the biker mommas (and mommas in general) who show up, from 11 am to 4 pm, with free flowers and a chance to win a $250 gift card to Massage Envy.
Have you and your mom ever thought about getting tipsy and making candles? It’s a good thing Buy the Glass Wine Bar & Lounge will have a wine tasting/candle-making class from noon to 5 pm.
Silver Street will have several vendors (MOODxMoss, Flora Cocina, Scout and Cellar Clean Crafted Wines) on hand for people looking for some cool gifts to give their mommies. Event runs from noon to 5 pm.
Sunday, May 13
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston offers free admission to all moms all day, beginning at 12:15 pm. There will also be a Mother’s Day brunch at the MFAH Café and 20 percent off an item at the MFAH Shop and the Shop at Bayou Bend.
Mothers who are huge fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race may definitely want to have brunch at Bar Boheme. There will be a “Drag Queen Brunch Show,” with live music and “drymosas” (dry-ice mimosas) from 11 am to 4 pm.
Even though there are new flicks aimed at mothers this weekend (Life of the Party, Breaking In, Tully), Alamo Drafthouse Cinema will have a special screening of Fried Green Tomatoes at 6 pm.
The Houston Latin American Philharmonic will present its annual Mother’s Day Serenade at 6 pm. Chucho Avellanet, Jorge Luis Chacin, and Luis Alonso Hernandez will be the guest artists.
Fogao Brazilian Churrasqueria will have the exquisite jazz singer Raquel Cepeda serenade all the moms in the audience with a repertoire of Brazilian and Latin songs, from 6:30 to 9:30 pm.
The Official Dairy Ashford Roller Rink will let moms skate free, for the rink’s adults-only “Mother’s Day Skate” event, from 7 to 10 pm. (Dudes and women without an accompanying child pay $3.)
